The Junebug Knight

Description

Here we have the specimen of the Junebug Knight, airborne defender of his people and Embracer of the Sacred Lights. A fine warrior that met his demise at the battle of the feasting giants. You see, the large wingless and leathery creatures were invading the territory of their sacred lights with their flame roasted meats and strange metal drinking horns. There were giants of every size, and many colors ranging from dark brown to a pale, spot flecked white. They gathered about the light swatting and roaring at Sir Junebug and his army as they raced to save their life blessing illumination. The battle seemed about won when one of the largest giants brought forth the great booming flowers born of fire and of lightning. The giants brought forth their magic fire wands and the sky went alight with a great bursting of rainbow and lightning colored petals. The sounds were air shattering. The army scrambled to regroup after every great shock. Sir Junebug, seeking to make the crashing stop, raced after one of the largest giants, seeking to knock the wand that brought forth the magic fires from his hand. But all was too late too soon, the giant suddenly turn and ran and Sir Junebug's fate was sealed at the first booming explosion of sparks. Long live his memory and may he forever be in the warm Embraces of the Sacred Light.

His favorite princess was Rapunzel and he really was a bit of a jerk, anyway....

11" x 14" Watercolor, Pencil, and Colored Pencil on Watercolor Paper. This painting has a white textured background but I left that out for the digital display of the image.
Created for the Changeling Artist Collective the original painting will be available for purchase at their Bugs and Beasties online auction running from June 13 - June 20, 2016. More information and amazing artists here --- > www.facebook.com/ChangelingArt…

I wanted to do a specimen drawing of a Junebug dressed up in an inspiration of carved parade armor. It would be fun to create a few more different beetles in a similar fashion. Or maybe even a battle scene would be fun.
